Tyson came out of nowhere! I mean I thought I was a SA Hip hop fan until I saw a dude I never heard of being surrounded with what we call Pretoria Rap A-Listers, I’m talking Jay Jody, Reece, Thato Saul, Marcus Harvey and more, not only did it look like he’s found a connection and respect from these artists, but it really looks like he knows them to a friendship level. The first time I got exposed to the dude was with a picture posted by Jody on Instagram, they put Ty in middle of them, I said who’s this N**ga in the middle of Blue Tape?? First forward after that I came across the ad clip for ‘If Found, Bring Home (Footage) I said well…. dude is a barman and he is not serving drinks, he sounded so prepared.

When it comes to PTA rap, It’s hard to come across artists who can rap next to Reece, even most of the guys he had on TWC couldn’t really rap next to him, it got to a point where it would ruin a song once another dude from that crew would lay their verse after Babyboy. With this recent out of nowhere wave of Thato Saul, Solo Jay Jody and Tyson, we finally have rappers who can go toe to toe with him to a point where you can’t even spot the best verse, and that’s refreshing if you ask me, like finally some competition, we can’t be praising the same guy for 5 years.
HOME comes off as a personal project tackling personal & social issues and yes, a bad bitch, Tyson comes across as a playful lyricist with great humor, the funny guy in the studio who outraps everyone in the same session, on one of the songs he mentions that he has a 9-5 and no pressure for streaming income, and that is something more rappers should explore, doing what you love while being realistic, as streams can cause more suicidal attempts than we can imagine honestly.
The features include Una Rams on Homecoming, Thato Saul on Away Games, Jay Jody, Francis Jay, Amarafleur, Marcus Harvey, Mass The Difference , IMP THA DON, Wordz and more, It’s impressive how he has a good ear for melodies, all the singing dudes on here really showed out, including himself on ‘Riddle Me’. What sets HOME apart from most projects that dropped this year, is the chemistry he has with his collaborators, you can tell him and Thato literally write together, Jody was honored to rap next to a titan. The hardest part for me was to think on who pulled up with the best vocals from all vocalists featured, an out of the box approach that resulted with melodies that will be sampled in the future. To top it off the beat selection on this project is Rick ross level, it might not be luxury rap, but non of these beats came cheap, dude mos def has a circle of trusted producers and engineers who knew their position and compromising wasn’t an option. Not going to dive too much into as you need to hear it yourself, and there is no way in the world I can give this a rating until maybe like a thousand listens.
